Hazel Lee DeLisle was born "dirt poor" to a 14 year old Arkansas girl in 1925. She spent her first 13 years living in extremely impoverished conditions before an improbable opportunity to move to Michigan was given to her step father and mother. She grew up quickly. Met the love of her life and promptly watched him ship off to war. After reuniting they married, started a family, and later started a charismatic renewal center that offered sanctuary to many other wayward souls through the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Most important, to her and those around her, she became Granny. As Granny she offered sanctuary to so many people wherever she met them. She has offered an open door policy in her home that always is accompanied by the warmest embrace and a cookie for good measure. For those of us privileged enough to experience this in person, no explanation is needed. For those who haven't, you'll have to imagine a place where you are expected and appreciate for everything you are (faults, wrinkles, and all...) To know Granny is to know what it is like to be loved!
